Some denominations of Xianity teach finding your own answers. Whereas Catholicism is a take-it-or-leave-it (and go to Hell) religion, Protestantism focuses more on finding your own answers. But there are so many sub-denominations, each with their own tweaks. Isn't there one that even sends their kids out for year when they hit 17?

Depends which Catholicism and which Protestantism.

I once read an interesting article that the sects which emigrated to colonies like America where not seeking religious tolerance but the possibility to impose their own intolerance, so better be cautious about the dogmas and scarlet letters they spread.

Heh. Good point. But today, "intolerance" seems to have been renamed to "sensitive," making it more palatable.

I personally am sensitive if the blaming of others is used to whitewash the own deficiencies, which is risky because it can lead to repetition of that history ...

But that's not only relevant for religions ...

        Update

For instance if Brits and Americans would just use 10% of the time they spend for Nazi Germany in school for talking about their own atrocities and war crimes, invasions of Iraq would be less likely.
