BillKSmith has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have recently discovered that many module (e.g. Template::Toolkit) README links on cpan.search are blocked by Norton Internet Security. Is this a real concern? Do I have an option set wrong? Can anyone else fix the problem?

    Do they block MetaCPAN, too?

    ($q=q:Sq=~/;[c](.)(.)/;chr(-||-|5+lengthSq)`"S|oS2"`map{chr |+ord }map{substrSq`S_+|`|}3E|-|`7**2-3:)=~y+S|`+$1,++print+eval$q,q,a,
      I have never had a problem with MetaCPAN. I only discovered the problem with search.cpan while trying to follow a link on the GUI version of ActiveState ppm. I confirmed the problem by going to the site. Note: It appears that the README links are the only ones blocked.

    Norton Internet Security is a joke.

      The search site is SAFE. It is README links ( e.g. http://search.cpan.org/src/ABW/Template-Toolkit-2.26/README) of individual modules that are blocked. Norton's explanation does not seem reasonable for that type of document. I am asking the user community if they think I should believe Norton. If not, who is the responsible person who could negotiate with Norton to resolve the issue and how can I request them to do it.

      UPDATE: Now I am confused. I can access the desired page from perlmonks using the link above.

        It would therefore seem that Norton is more concerned about where the link is coming from than it is about what the link points to.

        (It's heartening to know that Norton trusts perlmonks ;-)

        Cheers,
        Rob
        Heh, youre using some software, browser plugin or something, all you do is read the docs to find how to report a bug
