It's not just an exclamation mark ("!"), it's actually something else. And if you run the program, you will quickly see what the other "characters" really are ... :-D

      Works for me, the latest cygwin on Win 7 (64bit).

        So how am I supposed to run it? It didn't even run on linux (RHEL) when calling perl japh where I copied the code into a file called "japh".

        It just finishes without any output at all.
