Redux: you know you're a PM addict when...

by John M. Dlugosz (Monsignor)
on Sep 25, 2001 at 07:29 UTC ( [id://114466]=monkdiscuss: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

It just happened: I tried to ++ a post in a newsgroup.

I've officialy over the edge now. Pray for me.

A few days ago a co-worker asked of me, "Save me from Compiler Hell." I replied that I'd say a benediction. Then I faith-healed his code, changing it, then changing it back the way it was and it continued to work. What's next?

    • ... you get all your news from the Chatterbox ...
    • ... and all the best conversations you have in the day are from the Chatterbox ...
    • ... you reply to business correspondance with your holy monk nick ...
    • ... you make reference to cheese all day long, and no one replies ...
    • ... the non-PM html you write is replete with PM tags ...
    • ... your home node is considerably larger and better than your website ...

    YMMV

Well... home node on perl monks being larger than your website isn't so bad, since your homenode here is probably more likely to get read than most people's web sites :)

I caught myself looking for the "Newest Nodes" link on another website (newslinx.com) today.... That one is a first for me. It was scary how long it took to realize that hitting the refresh button over there really was OK. ;-)

    • It hurts your eyes to look at websites that don't have Dark Theme
    • Your first reaction upon being given a project is to look on CPAN to see if it's been done before
    • You accidentally type use strict; at the beginning of your email at least once a day

For sure not a made up statement. The other day I had exactly the same experience, but was too shy to admit it. Maybe we should study some brain science and research our behaviour further;-)

    - When you hardly have an opportunity to touch Perl code cuz you've been migrated to another language - yet you read many of the problems/fixes on PM anyway.

    - When you know your employer is montitoring your on-line adventures in this 'hacker-language' and you vote daily and pop out a post like this one in spite of everything.

    - When you trust the advise of Monks over that of your co-workers.

    This one's a bit obscure:

...When your girlfriend is lexically scoped.

Is that like the old saw -- "Out of site, out of mind."

I've got a new one.... you see a car with 'ECHO' scrawled on the back, and it makes you think of this echo instead of the this one.

      -Blake

Not so much "out of mind" as "out of reach". Or is that "out of scope"?

Hmm, so I decided she's a package variable, not a lexical. That is, it's an access issue not an existance issue.
