I voted for "Nuclear/Asteroid Fallout (e.g. Fallout or Lucifer's Hammer) " though the 2 possibilities mentioned in it are quite different.
I think that "asteroid fallout" has the potential to unite humankind, but that "nuclear fallout" would only further divide us.

    Cheers,

      > potential to unite humankind

"united" like concentrated on the other side of the planet?

      Cheers Rolf

Ruled by a mixture of biologists and economists.

A major oversight on my part... perhaps my subconscious is already trying to scrub the last two years from my immediately accessible memory. :-)

Just another Perl hooker - My clients appreciate that I keep my code clean but my comments dirty.

    I miss some options...as in
    • Nuclear holocaust: that looked like something very likely to happen when I was a child... planing how to build my own bunker was one of my favorite pastimes then!
    • The christian apocalypse or well, any other future where paranormal things become normal like the earth being invaded by demons, ghosts, vampires, etc.
    • The human race transmutes into something different, like all our consciences being transferred to a computer. Or amebas (has anybody read Seedling Stars?).
    • Idiocracy.
    • We get to a point where machines do everything for us (work, art, etc.).
    • Our creator reveals to us and removes all the suffering from the world. Everybody is happy ever after.
    • Genetic engineering becomes a commodity. Everybody can become whatever he wants.
    • Immortality too.

possible addition, unless I misinterpreted one of the others...

The 1980's cartoon Thundercats depicts an almost serene post apocalyptic future version of our world, sparsely populated by various anthropomorphic creatures, magical beings and a few humans. Could be fun to live there (I used to think back in the day).

Although the whole Star Trek universe (original, not reboot) would be even nicer. Pretty sure that counts as a "post-apocalyptic world", the whole space travel thing starts after World War 3 has devastated the planet.

Don't we already live in one?

    • Return of the inquisition / religious takeover! (I <3 bonfires)

The only movie reference I have is "A Handmaid's Tale", but haven't seen the TV version yet and they don't burn, right?

I would want to live outside this world as part of the Rapture. To be left behind would be the most terrifying thing imaginable.

I don't care about the kind of post-apocalyptic world, but I know the place where I would like to live: in memory only.

Probably counts as a Zombie Infestation, but the original Apocalypse that got the whole business going was Jesus'. Wouldn't choose that one, I guess.

I've always felt it unfortunate that the term "apocalypse" has come to mean "horrible end of the world as we know it", when it really just means "revelation". Apocalyptic literature didn't begin with the Christians, but began not long prior, and was certainly very popular among early Christians.

Larry, from Apocalypse 1: The Ugly, the Bad, and the Good:

People get scared when they hear the word Apocalypse, but here I mean it in the good sense: a Revealing. An Apocalypse is supposed to reveal good news to good people. (And if it also happens to reveal bad news to bad people, so be it. Just don't be bad.)
