I simply renamed the level
That you renamed it to a term whose meaning is female-exclusive is, I think, the most interesting aspect of that change.

Patriarch and Pope ("pappas") both derive from the Greek word for father.
AFAICS did the Latin church borrow the title from some Eastern Churches, the Coptic Patriarch is still referred to as Pope ("Al Baba").
Update
Compare also Patriarch of the West

fyi, "pope" means "father", so...
... so there's even more gender-bias than I had noticed !!
Has it actually been ascertained that if the Vatican was to appoint a female Pope in the future that she could not be referred to as "the pope" ?
I'm guessing that the notion of a female Pope is so unthinkable to the Vatican (and its adherents), that her actual title has not yet been considered.

It's ok, none of them are female.

confusing patriarch with matriarch?
What about renaming the rank to pmatriarch? That would include the male AND the female form, and is also a play on the abbreviation of our site ....
We could also determine the name of the rank below vroom by a poll ...
Have a great 2022! Rata

In my opinion this was an ill-advised change for the worse. Please go back to Pope.
The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

I think that "Patriarch" is way more, um, patriarchal that Pope. It's the essence of patriarchy, surely? The word "Pope" may have roots in "father" but it now means "head of church". This does bring up the singularity question.
Why not make Vroom the Pope, and the current Popes/Patriarchs can have a different title? Maybe just "Eminence"?
One Pope to rule them all ...
Or ... since as someone pointed out Sainthood is achieved post-mortem, make vroom the only Saint, leave the Popes as is, and rename the Saint level ... maybe to "Assistant at the Pontifical Throne" (definition)?
The way forward always starts with a minimal test.
