And here’s your promised rebuttal. Recapitulating: Saying “you just don’t understand” is a terribly fallacious and arrogant argument regardless of field.

Matthew 5:17–20 and Revelation 2:23 are both part of the New Testament. There are a few others—Luke 12:51 is germain to this thread’s direction—but this is *deeply* boring to me at this stage in the game and the first of those citations brings in the entirety of the Old Testament which really makes it a 100% wash.

Saying “you just don’t understand” is a terribly fallacious and arrogant argument regardless of field.

Is it? If I say "I've never heard of particle X interacting with field Y!" and a physicist says "You must not have read Feynman's Z, or else you didn't undertand it" is not particularly fallacious and arrogant, let alone terribly fallacious and arrogant.

So let's be clear: When 1nickt said "First time I have ever heard the Christians' God described as "humble", he was boasting about his ignorance of Christian theology, which, of course, is typical atheist rhetoric.

      1) I am not an atheist.

      2) I am not in the least bit ignorant of Christian theology.

      3) I was not boasting about anything!

      4) You are a typical arrogant Christer.

      5) I'm also *deeply* bored with self-referential Christian apologetics or any religion that has to apologize for itself.

      See ya!

The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

ok. I didn't call you an atheist; I simply said it was typical atheist rhetoric.

You are ignorant of Christian theology if (as you claim) you "[n]ever heard the Christians' God described as 'humble'". Sorry, man. One doesn't have to go looking all that hard to find it.

Why do you call me arrogant? I'm not a "Christer" at all. I was raised in it, and studied it intensely for many years. I'm not saying I'm "one of the great Christian scholars of our time"; far from it. But I know enough to know that a literal reading of the scriptures, stripped of cultural context, does not produce anything like good, classical Christian theology.

(Yes, I'm the same anonymonk as above in this subthread.)
