Why Perl 2? At the time I wrote the OP, I was playing with Perl 2, and thought to myself "this ain't such a bad subset". No really, that's exactly the reason. It's smallish and potentially easier to tinker with. Perl 3 is, too. I didn't say it was a GOOD reason. But I think it's worth considering.
