We are rambling into the briar but I am forced to consider: Is there a better summary in human history of why politicians and lawyers are both so widely disliked? Present company and Henry VI, Part 2 excepted of course.

    On a more serious note:

    I think common law and especially the US flavor of it transforms lawyers to a priest cast like in ancient Egypt.

    Voodoo masters dominating the simple folk.

    To change your fate you're not sacrificing the lamb anymore but you're rather sueing it.

    Where I come from laws are made by parliaments and not by judges.

    Lawyers are not particularly unpopular here and their compensation for court suits is strictly regulated.

    Of course YMMV...
