in reply to Learning Programming, desperately need to know what information is contained in scalar variables

It appears that many of your posts are very similar, and AFAICT, your nodes here and here (posted just a few minutes apart) are identical. Please avoid multiple posts of essentially identical nodes, questions, etc. It makes the thread "noisy" and hard to follow. You can refer to another node with a link, e.g., Reaped: Re^4: Learning Programming, desperately need to know what information is contained in scalar variables ([id://11119566]). Please see What shortcuts can I use for linking to other information? for info on linking on PerlMonks.

I also notice that you are posting anonymously. If you register as a user and log in as such, you can edit a node posted as that user. You can avoid posting yet another node that is only a correction, e.g., this. Please see How do I change/delete my post? for site etiquette and protocol regarding changes to your posts as a registered user.
