in reply to Do you really want to know if there is extraterrestrial life?

I voted "No" because I'm sure there is.

I'm pretty sure it's an intelligent life form. Proof is: They ignore us.

I voted "No" because I'm sure there is.

    It's interesting - I don't see the causative relationship.
To me, it would make just as much sense (ie none whatsoever) to say "I voted 'Yes' because I'm sure there is".

The question is "Do you *want* to know", and the answer is not reliant upon what (if anything) you already know.
The question is about what you *want* to know, irrespective of anything that you already know.

    Cheers,
    Rob

      Don't confuse me with facts.

      I'm sure there is.

I don't want to know because if there isn't I cannot be sure anymore.

But I'm sure there has to be because here there isn't.

If you are already sure there is extraterrestrial life, then you already know there is extraterrestrial life.

So the question "do you want to know if there is extraterrestrial life?" really becomes a question about whether you are happy with your current certainty.

Like if someone asked me "do you really want to know the answer to 1+2?", logically I should say yes, because though I already have this knowledge, losing the knowledge would be detrimental to my life.
