in reply to (OT) question about R language

Many of the best discussions of "R" actually occur within discussions of "statistics in general," often in the context of well-known systems like SAS and SPSS, all of which now contain support for "R." This is now recognized as a programming language which concerns statistics, and which therefore offers useful things that these "macro-based tools" don't have. But nevertheless it's rarely discussed independently. (You will also find meaningful discussion in Python circles.)
