Also ... be sure that the procedure you're using to display the data knows to expect UTF-8! The only way to know for certain that the byte stream was handled correctly is to display some of it using a command-line tool like hexdump. Examine the bytes.

    Maybe you could enumerate some of these “procedures” for those of us who might not understand. I personally would be gratified to learn how to be 100% certain while examining a byte stream that it was handled correctly. Please help us all by showing just a little code… Just like a few lines demonstrating your point. Please! Oh, please don’t go—we’ll eat you up—we love you so!
