If you “want different skins,” then perhaps you should volunteer to do that.   The source-code to PerlMonks can be obtained.   (Whether it ever makes it into production, is a different matter.)

As to “how you were received,” well, you just might have gotten off on the wrong foot with the crowd.   Reactions can be very sharp.   You just need to roll with the punches.
