Advice on a graphics package

BernieC has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm thinking of doing some graphics hacking. I'd like to do it in perl but I don't know what "backend" makes sense. gnuplot seems to mostly want to make graphs of various kinds... but what I'm doing is math hacking. The sort of thing I'd like to play with is this

Triskelion

Is ImageMagick a reasonable choice for this kind of thing? Something else? Thanks!!

Perl is good with text. How about the SVG format? Here's a low level SVG module.

You can lead your users to water, but alas, you cannot drown them.

I was about to recommend SVG also. I found this article with some simple examples.

      SVG looks perfect. Thanks!! /b\

ImageMagick is possible. There's also Cairo, OpenGL, SDL.

You want images to visualize numerical results? You definitely want PDL, then. It does the math faster, too.

SVG proved to be perfect. Easy to understand and it was easy to get going. 15 minutes of fooling around got me this: www.fantasyfarm.com/reverse.jpg {dunno how to put IMG or a URL in a post here]. so I'm a happy camper. THANKS!!! /Bernie\
