Proxy Server Converting requests on the fly

ReiVo has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Dear All, I want to write a proxy which modifies the requests and responses which go back and forth between MY browser and the web server. Objective is to better control the conversation. Avoid or fake cookies, avoid not desired publicity, make better controls on hostile content etc. something like that:
| Browser |<== http ==>| Proxy Server |<==https==>
first of all: is there something similar already available, just to avoid to reinvent the wheel ? This could be a control centre for a browser, which could be browser independent. thank you very much for every hint on this

    Yeah, mcafee antivirus people have something ... maybe IBM also has something :) (don't ask for names I don't use it)

    avoid not desired publicity

    If you're running the proxy, this doesn't change, esp when you proxy https requests over http

    My other hint is proxy

    Try Privoxy ... it isn’t a Perl program, but it probably already does what you want to do, in the way that you envision doing it.
