Uploading applications to CPAN ?

skx has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I've written (yet another) static-site generator, using HTML::Template along with Text::Template. Currently this tool is distributed as a standalone application.

(This is even more standalone than usual, as although there are modules involved in the implementation the ultimate "make install" concatenates everything together to make installation as simple as copying a single file to a directory on the user's path.)

I've had a couple of suggestions over the past year about uploading to CPAN, but I'm hazy on where to put it. I guess that i should use "App::Templer", but even that feels too specific.

ObLink: The generator uses plugins, allows you to write pages in Markdown, Textile, or HTML, and handles perl code too, it can be found here: http://github.com/skx/templer/

So, to be explicit, I want to ask if there is a preferred namespace/prefix for applications, rather than standard-modules? I'm happy to junk my current concatenation solution, and work with "perl Makefile.PL; make install", but before I do that I need to know what to call my modules.

    http://pause.perl.org/pause/query?ACTION=pause_namingmodules#App

    App

You can distribute applications as Perl distributions. Typically, those sorts of distributions go under the App namespace, like App::Ack, App::Cpan, and App::Prove. The namespace implies that its a ready-to-use program rather than a module.

I have no idea from the name what "App::Templer" does, or is for. But I don't know that I can come up with anything better for a name. I guess think in terms of searchability: What search terms are on-topic for your module, and likely to be used by someone seeking similar functionality?

Unfortunately I suspect that the terms would be overly broad, and I'd not want to make a land-grab.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking "extensible static-site generator", "markdown", "textile", "plugins", etc, etc.

FWIW I did upload to App::Templer, after some rejigging of the internals. (Mostly updating to use Module::Pluggable, and cleaning up some of the internal organization.)

Avoid adjectives. "Static web-site generator." That's what it is. That's what it does.

If your application is called "Templer" then it'd be "App::templer". That is what it's for. Do you think people know what "App::perlbrew" is if they are not aware of what "brew" implies?
