let's try to be fair...

> There were no "troll responses".

Would you like receiving constant personal insults from an anonymous account, when you try giving status updates for your project, "Syphi-Robby-Boy"? ;)

"Anti-Raiphi" is practically constantly hiding behind the bushes of anonymity throwing verbal excrement.

In Internet slang, a troll is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

> To me, a troll is someone who makes unsolicited posts aimed at stirring up trouble (flame wars)... which leads me to ponder whether it's raiph who should be accused of trolling.

From my perspective this is not the case. Raiph is posting status updates to his project, which are of interest for a part of the monastery.

He does it openly with his own account and w/o insults and personal attacks.

AND as far as I can see, he accepted the many critics and always makes clear how far the project is from production.

> Far more interesting was the blatant and heavy-handed censorship that went on in the name of "reaping troll responses".

I unhappily agree, these were overreactions because some people lost their cool.

Which is unsurprisingly the aim of a troll (sic).

I told in the CB and Moritz admitted that he overreacted. I can't blame him I overreacted in the past in other cases. We are all humans...

To avoid misunderstandings:

I'm far from being a Rakudo-Whatever-* fan, and IMHO wasting the name "Perl6" to what is actually a "Perl++" project was one of the worst strategic decisions in Perl's history.

BUT shouldn't the monastery be a ground for fair discussions?

Nobody would object if "Anti-Raiphi" would post his critic in a sober tone, so why the hate?

This post is not about TIMAP6 (The Initiative Misnamed as Perl6) but about the discussion culture in the monastery!

I would like to see more status reports from other projects like "perlito" or "mojolicious" without insulting backfire from anonymous cowards.

Please have a look at

  • Re^13: A "Perl-7" that I could actually USE right now (anonymous bad behavior)

    and

  • Re: using the power of consideration responsibly (what is personal attack what is trolling, can you lose power to consider)

Please note the connected reaped notes with statements like "wanker" and "you dumb troll".

Are you honestly defending such a culture of mobbing?

Are we a monastery? Or is this a pit for dogfights for some obscure tourette patients?

Obviously this troll just realized that concentrating on P6-threads is most efficient for living out his aggressions, b/c he can use the big P6 frustration of people like you and me.

    Cheers Rolf
