As a rule, anyone above level 9 can moderate nodes, and we really don't want Anonymous Monk to moderate.

Came here to make sure this was stated, even though I know the OP is a tongue-in-cheek comment.

It's partly tongue in cheek and partly serious. Allowing Anonymous Monk to have XP could really cause technical difficulties.
I believe that in theory, perlmonks has a setting somewhere that lets the gods ban a monk from moderation. This feature, however, was never tested, because as far as I know, no monk was ever banned from moderation. It's difficult to tell whether it works correctly because the moderation code is in a very ugly state, with parts duplicated in three or four places. There could even be problems with level powers other than moderation and voting, and very likely banning these from anyone was also never tested. (We do have a working system for banning users from voting though.) If there is a bug, that Anonymous Monk could quickly cause a lot of trouble, such as moderating on lots of nodes. If an ordinary monk had such behaviour, the gods could simply lock up their account, whether temporarily or permanently; but with Anonymous Monk this might be difficult or impossible. Fixing such a bug wouldn't be easy either, because none of the gods have much time. Thus, if we wanted to change Anonymous Monk to gain XP, the gods would first have to make a long code audit, and they'd rather spend their time for something more productive.
Sorry.
(As a compromise, we could have Anonymous Monk have zero XP but show up on Monks by Writeup Count. Do you think that would help?)

Most of his contributions are just Super Searches, and since he is not easily identifiable, his contributions are not discussed in the same way those of a named users are.
Furthermore he often uses a less than neutral tone, and it's noticeable that criticizing his nodes results in immediate downvotes. (He already admitted that he has a log-in)
These a trolling techniques...I don't like these kind of games...
Though most of the content of his posts are OK, and I know worse patients in this mental institution.
But if he choses to be anonymous, we should treat him as such and not try to bend 14 years old rules for an individual joker.
My 2¢, I will refrain of discussing this further! =)

Shouldn't it be possible to calculate the amount of XP Anonymous Monk would have based on the noderep of all of the AM posts? It wouldn't be 100% accurate because of the tweaks to the XP/noderep system over the years, but it would likely be close.

Its much easier than that to estimate, just look at Saints in our Book, at the three "genuine" popes, combined xp 361927, combined writeups 46224, about 7.83 XP per node so 74943 * 7.82985029421945 =~ 586792, or about 5.86 times pope, or about 6 popes
FWIW, that is treating all Anonymous Monks as one user that likes to spend all his votes :) OTOH if you count all the saints the average goes up 7116126/540347 = 13.169548456825, but of course this doesn't take into account monk level (: I don't do stats :)
Me personally, I have about 15 thousand posts, which would make me the third pope ahead of corion

A pope is a very knowledgeable (wo)man ... we mortals may be proud of ourselves for that ... but Anonymous Monk, forsooth, is a deity even greater than the gods themselves. Anonymous Monk is the “secret sauce” to all of our discussions, and the secret source of even the most arcane Popish wisdom.
