mystik has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I was reading in my 'Programming Perl, ed. 2' About such dark magic as perl compilation, and other interesting things, and stumbled upon the 'Penguin' Module. I promptly installed it from CPAN, but there is no perldoc for it, and searching for 'Penguin perl' on google doesn't seem to turn up anything that looks immidiatly relevant.

Does anyone know of any documentation, links, or has anyone used this module?

It may be worth noting that, although Larry, Tom, and/or Randal imply in 'Programming Perl,' Edition 2, 1996, p. 363 that they have high hopes for Penguin (even hinting that it might become part of the standard Perl distribution):
    • The most recent version of Penguin is dated May, 1997.
    • The FAQ and README from that release make Penguin sound like very much a work in progress.
    • There appears to have been no release addressing the deficiencies mentioned in the brief docs that accompany the 1997 version.
    • Edition 3 of 'Programming Perl' completely reshuffles the material in Edition 2, chapter 6 where Penguin was mentioned. In the process it appears all mention of Penguin in edition 3 has been dropped.
    FWIW
