Seeing the Reaper's handiwork (or not)

by grinder (Bishop)

We take great care to weed out bad nodes that serve no purpose on the site. Most of the nodes that are fed to the Reaper are simply errors: people posting blank nodes, or duplicates due to reposting form data by accident (and quite often people will edit the node to say so, as the previous example shows).

Once a node has been cooked by the Reaper, a little stub is left, containing the explanation that the considerer gave when the node went up for consideration, just to let you know what happened. But I don't really care to see them any more.

I would like to see a option in user settings that would allow me not to have to see these stub nodes -- I don't even want to know they're there. My feelings might be different if the majority of reaped nodes contained so-called "controversial" material, but in actual practice that doesn't seem to be the case.

In any event, any time some really controversial reaping takes place, there are other ways of hearing about it, either in the CB, or else someone posts a meditation on it. (Come to think of it, those are the ways I tend to hear about it -- never by coming across a post attributed to NodeReaper in a thread).

    Good point.
After all you can read all reaped nodes from the NodeReapers home node if you should feel like reading them.

    Regards... Stefan

A more general solution would be to be able to ignore nodes from any given user. Not that I wholly endorse this practice, but there have been occasions where I wished for a "killfile" equivalent.

Putting NodeReaper in your "killfile" would then suppress all these stub nodes.

I agree; I asked for this feature in June.
