The contrast feels rather low to my eyes, especially on the lighter-blue links. It reminds me of firebirdsql.org whose re-design was IMO a disaster but my artistic friend liked the result. (The old web site (web.firebirdsql.org), however, did very much look like something from 1998, with tacky WordArt and everything. (Perhaps removing the WordArt would've been sufficient.))

What's disturbing me about the mock-ups is the size of the top navigation bar. Even the smallest one of them takes one quarter of the vertical space of my browser window. (The largest, almost half.) And it's sticky.
