More material for PerlMonks text adventure

by cavac (Parson)
on Jun 25, 2012 at 20:04 UTC ( [id://978256]=perlquestion: print w/replies, xml ) Need Help??

cavac has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm currently writing a (rather small) text adventure that plays out in the monastery.

I don't want to give you the story yet, it's gonna be a surprise (a good one, i hope).

The adventure is a bit tongue-in-cheek and i still need a few famous real or fictional Monastery characters to liven up the scenes. One real person is already included in a major role (no, i wont tell who). Also, i got the reaper and the vote fairy.

So, any contenders? What i'm searching for:

  • Person (virtual or real) must be well known throughout the userbase. That's what immediately qualified the vote fairy.
  • Real persons must have shown a certain amount sense of humor and tolerance...
  • Also qualified may be some special trolls, as long as they have a long, well known history with the monastery.

For any such person i'd like a short reasoning or link to one or more articles that made them (in)famous ;-)

Also welcome are links to any famous and "special" posts here in PerlMonks. I'm on the lookout for more insider jokes and such.

Update 2012-07-02: This will take a little longer than planned. During a slight disagreement with my bicycle (which i lost), i broke my left forearm near the elbow. I might be able to release a small preview of the adventure in a couple of weeks, but i can't promise anything, except that the project is still alive.

AnnonyMonk -- too obvious to justify

nicko -- a variant of the name of the formerly hands-down-winner of downvotes for obtusity and/or ungracious respsonse to help (I forget if just the former or both) or one of the candidates found in "Worst Nodes of the Year"

    Borg, he of the 'belly'

Possibly an imaginary someone with a non-European name whose Perl skills exceed her/his competence with English exposition?

stumbit found on various PM submit buttons

"Thank you for your patients" ... or some variant thereon, offered as an apology or 'thank you' for various actions

ROFL! Nice! I think i'll have to add a few rooms. And at least one computer interface ;-)

I would think you would have to include some of the important early users, most notably vroom who was for a long time considered the "owner" of PerlMonks; also nate, CmdrTaco, and chromatic (who has the distinction of being the earliest (real person) user still active on the site).

Also CowboyNeal, who was the object of many running gags.

Also TimToady, for obvious reasons. :-) And similarly merlyn.

Critical: root. This fella owns many nodes at PerlMonks, and sends you messages, e.g. when someone replies to a node of yours.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.

I have no sense of humor, cavac. So keep me out of your cut rate, basement geek-pr0n.

    …huhhhhh… Line!

Oh, right. Did I get the part?

      Dear Grue,

Hereby we like to offer ypou a small part in our upcoming feature film text adventure. You will play a classic role. Looks aren't that important, the room will be completly dark.

Ah, just think of the endless comedic possiblities of such a great name... "No, you can't stab YOUR MOTHER!" ...

I however, am a real grue ... for we AnonyMonks are legion! Lots of us throwing out the best advice you can get but just as likely to assasinate your character ... "You AND your mother too b*tches!"

While he doesn't fit in either category the quest to up-vote paco might fit?

Oh, yes. Good call. Paco's (only) post was also one of the first ones i ever read on PerlMonks.
