bgp neighbors

jose_m has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

hello Perl Monks, I need to check bgp neighbors, then take some action based on the results. I found this module on cpan:

IPDevice::RouterBase::BGP

IPDevice::RouterBase::BGP will allow you to store information about BGP, but you could probably do that with simple hashes and arrays. The main problem would be to get the BGP status data from the router in the first place. The first tool that most people would reach for would be SNMP. A few references that might help you get started: A Cisco page that displays the BGP-4 MIB, http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseMIB.do?local=en&step=2&submitClicked=true&mibName=BGP4-MIB#contents The various CPAN modules that implement SNMP, such as SNMP, Net::SNMP, the non-CPAN module SNMP_Session, and so on.
