Well, how about a Perl Game Programmers section? Thats what I do with perl, or mostly anyways. It would be nice to share codes and such with others who program games in perl. (mostly RPGs of course). But hey, anything else is fine and dandy as well.

A few reasons behind why we should have this section, for one, it really doesn't fit in any other section, and besides there are hundreds of ways to do different things, and ideas to implement in online Perl Rpgs. I would like to see what others have to say about it. ;)

    What about a Perl-based RPG?
    > l You are in a dim barn, with only a sprinkling of light making its way through from the boards above. In the center of the room is a large wooden chest which doesn't appear to be locked. > open chest You open the chest. Inside the chest is: A lantern. A map. A broken dagger. > get map You get the map. > use map You use a map in void context. You have lost 50 hp. You have DIED!
I'm in. Especially if "grue" in this game stands for "Greedy RegUlar Expression"... :)
You have moved into a dark place.
It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Exactly! Perl-Based rpg, sounds like a good idear! Oh greedy regular expressions, I've seen many of those in my days. Besides, perl based rpg, of course, I love rpgs, and perl being my favorite language (shrug). I figure its a good idea. ;)

Hm. Since we've organized the site a little differently, e.g. not along application types, I'm leaning against this.

Now, if you want to post a number of CUFP's to warrant a special section, I might be willing to reconsider my vote. However, we'd also need some sample CGI scripts, system administration tools, database manipilation thingies, and so on. Oh, wait, don't we already have something like that (alt.)?

Regardless, you might also find this small smattering of (additional) links interesting:

In my experience, many folks prefer to use C++, Java, Flash, and other tools for this sort of thing. Mind you, I'm not trying to suggest that it can't be done (heck, dungeon was written in Fortran, if memory serves), just that we probably aren't quite ready for a special section for it.

    My two cents worth...

I think the Fun Stuff section in the Code Catacombs is fine for finished products or parts thereof; questions on coding go in Seekers of Perl Wisdom and those about gameplay, if somehow Perl related, in Meditations. At most, if there really is a lot of posted code, a "Games" category might be added to the Code Catacombs to accomodate them.

    Makeshifts last the longest.
