I think I'm experiencing a bug/problem with PerlMonks. How do I report it?

First, search the Perl Monks Discussion section to see whether the issue, or a similar one, has already been reported. There's no law says you can't report it again, but it's helpful to be aware of precedent.

If the problem is very obvious because the entire site or a large part is unreachable, it is recommended that you wait a few hours and monitor the chatter, the Monastery Gates, the What's New page, and PMD postings. The gods are usually quick to notice any problems that are so serious, and are usually already trying their best to fix the problem, so there is no need to immediately report every temporary failure.

Next, raise your issue in the chatterbox, to get a sanity check and to help you think through the details of the issue. "Enough eyeballs" and all that.

If, after all that, you still think there's a bug worth reporting, post your writeup in PMD. As in any bug report, please be as thorough and precise as you can. (Good resources for effective bug reporting exist on the web, e.g. this one seems pretty good.)

However - If you suspect or confirm that the bug represents a critical security flaw, write to the gods privately, rather than discussing it in public. If the bug is so serious that you both cannot post to PerlMonks (even as Anonymous Monk) or log in to discuss it in the chatterbox or send a private message, then you may try to contact the gods via this form, but please identify yourself and give a working contact email address so that the gods can reply to you. As an absolute last resort, you can try to contact the gods via off-site channels.
