Windows uses the colon not only for separating volume name from the rest of the path, but also to designate alternate data streams (an extension of extended attributes), which you thus accidentally created. They provide a tool for dealing with them

    soonix, thanks! Your explanation and links helped me to finally understand. The Microsoft page provided a simple demonstration at the command prompt:
