I didn't mention Fail Safe cause the "computer theme" didn't seem strong enough.

But if you think technological dangers in all generality are not too off topic here, I'll counter with Metropolis, the mother of all dystopian SciFi movies ...

The thing I appreciate about "Fail Safe" was that the computer fault was a realistic one - a blown component - instead of the "computer unexpectedly becomes sentient" silliness that is so prevalent. Now, a truly fail-safe system would have redundancies or fault detection and no single component failure could have had the effect it did...oh right, it's just a movie. :)

I have to admit I didn't remember the computer part - more Henry Fonda's surprised look and the count down before New York was blown away.

... hmm time to watch it again! =)

Computers don't need to become sentient (in the human sense) to change our life, electronic algorithms are already influencing our behavior.

No need of Matrix kind plugs into our body, smart-phones, app-stores, user tracking and so on are doing a good job to direct the masses.
