Is there anyway we could get all / errors messages returned? I have seen numerous /mshg /mg typos show up as clear messages in the chatterbox. This could end up one day having an indescreet /msg that goes wrong create some hurt feelings. I know if you /msg someone and have a typo in their name, root will reply with an error message, could it be done so if you incorrectly type /msg that it could also just give you a root reply with an error?

The discussion is incomplete without a mention of the last time this was implemented. It turned out not to be very popular and was removed. If you have something sensitive to say you probably shouldn't be using the chatterbox to say it, anyway--whether or not this change is made.

If you're worried about making a big boo-boo yourself, you could always use an alternate chatterbox client, such as the Java Chatterbox. The / behaviour is adjustable, and legal /commands are on by default.

It says it's alpha, although I found it pretty stable. Sometimes it'll freeze up in which case the only thing left to do is to close it and start up a fresh copy.

These days, of course, I use framechat2.

I was not here when they last tried out something like this, a la the current discussion in the CB, but I have to agree with many of the writers that it is just too funny when the errors get through. Also, there are times when people intentionally use errors for comidic effect.

Yes, it is possible (heck, even likely) that a mistyped /msg will cause hurt feelings. There are no doubt nodes here that have caused hurt feelings as well. Also, we should ask Jouke if he would like to have some sort of error checking in the CB (he knows why).

    Just my $0.02.

Update: come to think of it, error checking wouldn't have helped Jouke anyway.
