syphilis has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hi,

Here is a simple test perl (C++) distro that works fine for me on Windows, but not on mdk-9.1 (linux) with either perl 5.8.8 or 5.9.3.

By the looks of the thread that starts at http://www.mail-archive.com/inline@perl.org/msg03304.html this is a bug in perl.

I'm wondering whether that basic test distro works on mandriva with the latest bleadperl. If so, the matter can probably be put to rest ... if not then I should probably investigate further.

I guess I should really install the latest bleadperl myself and test it out - and I'll probably do that tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm interested to hear (of the success or otherwise) from anyone who cares to run that simple test distro ... along with any speculations as to whether the problem lies with perl or whether it lies with the source itself.

IIRC, the Makefile.PL assumes that g++ will be used as the C++ compiler ... otherwise the Makefile.PL may need to be amended.

Cheers,
Rob
Update: Ouch ... that's a far more complex account than what is needed. A simple "hello world" Inline::CPP script demonstrates the same problem. I'll build the latest blead and see what effect that has.

Update 2: No problem with the latest bleadperl, so the issue has obviously been fixed ... which is a relief. (Sorry for the noise.)
