We say "Cheers!" at every meal, based on the tradition our youngest started when he was 3 (he's 7 now).

For toasting with friends, I typically use "To Absent Friends", with a nod to Dr. F. N. Furter.

Otherwise, put the bread on a stick and over an open fire is nice. ;)
