After a typically silly [morning|afternoon|evening] in the ChatterBox, in which it was discovered that someone had given himself a stylish hat in his homenode pic, I am proud to announce that 3rd - 10th July is Officially* PerlMonks Silly Hat WeekTM!

The concept it simple, those wishing to take part edit their homenode pictures to include a silly hat of whatever variety they choose into the photo and upload it for the duration of the week. Consider it a dress-down-Thursday for Perlmonks but with Silly HatsTM and for a whole week!

FAQ

Can I wear whatever hat I like?
Yes, any form of headgear is acceptable. As long as it doesn't break any of the other rules of homenode pics you can wear what you want (but please wear pants, you know who you are!)

How long can I wear my hat for?
Well, Perlmonks Silly Hat WeekTM Kind of implies this silliness lasts for a week, but I guess you could keep your hat on as long as you want.

Will there be prizes for the best hats?
No, unless you want to provide them and judge yourself.

$Some_other_monk has the same hat as me!
And now you know what women feel like when they go to a party and someone else is wearing the same dress.

<Update> Where's your hat?
It's not Monday yet, I need the whole weekend to prepare a suitably silly hat. Right there! What's your excuse?</Update>

I'm wearing a squid and no pants in that picture. So there!
      Thats a squid?

Seriously, I thought it was a dog!

My home-node pic already features headwear of some discription, although it isn't on my head.

I do have a problem with the "pants must be worn" clause tho (how do you get a lion to wear pants?) :).

But, I'm already wearing a silly hat. Do I have to take it off now?

One of the funniest quotes I've seen was in a movie, I think it was American Pie, or was it Road Trip, where two girls are at a party naked, and one says shocked, "oh my she's wearing the same thing as me"..

She was referring to the fur :)

I think this is silly. Which is, of course, why I felt the need for a silly hat to go with the occasion.

July 3rd where you are, close enough. Mind you, it was a challenge getting the pants on the cat, but rules are rules ...

The intelligent reader will judge for himself. Without examining the facts fully and fairly, there is no way of knowing whether vox populi is really vox dei, or merely vox asinorum. -- Cyrus H. Gordon

Would you prefer the challenge of getting pants on the cat in my home-node pic?

OK, I'm a bit late, and not much cop with graphics software, but done.

(rejected ideas included an Audrey Hepburn tiara, & Elton John's swan hat).

Done. Okay, it's not me, it's Marvin Harrison, but that's a common view from my seats at The RCA Dome: Marvin scoring a touchdown and joking with the One and Two inflatable mascots. Silly but kinda cool, I think.
