Welcome to bobf's Ice Cream Shop
Please feel free to browse though the finest selection of ice cream in the Monastery, made fresh daily from only the best ingredients found in and around the grounds*. At least int rand(50) varieties are guaranteed to be in stock at any given time (of the more than 1000 recipies I've accumulated), but if you don't see your favorite I do take requests.
If you are in the mood for something else, please stop by Moriarty's Fine Food Emporium, where you can find a delectable selection of cheese, chocolate and marshmallows.
*A few specialty items must be imported. I also keep a small stock of cheesecake behind the counter for special guests. Let me know if you're interested and I'll see what I can do. ;-)
Some of my favorite writeups
- Don't go all PerlMonks on me (a PM-related anecdote)
- True or False? A Quick Reference Guide (I almost didn't even post this one)
- Bits & pieces (my first and only obfuscated JAPH)
- Newlines: reading files that were created on other platforms (variations on this question are asked frequently)
- Double interpolation of captured substrings (a small epiphany in my early years)
- Slicing multilevel hashes (fun with hash slices)
- Alternative ways to fully qualify subroutine names (trying to practice laziness)
Things I'd like to know more about
Actively learning:
- Perl! I'm currently reading Perl Best Practices, Object Oriented Perl, and Perl Testing: A Developer's Notebook
- CGI::Application
- MySQL
- myGrid and BioMoby
Future topics:
- Perl! I've got 5 more O'Reilly books just waiting to be cracked open...
- Service_oriented_architecture
- Ontologies and Controlled vocabularies
- Grid computing
Chatterbox and Node Tags
<code></code> or <c></c> tags prevent interpolation, as do:
& becomes & < becomes < > becomes > [ becomes [ ] becomes ]
