in reply to Job Posting Section?

I downvoted your node. Then I read it. Sorry. I agree that we need something more than jobs.perl.org.

Another option for a job seeker is to look for other monks in their local area and message them if they know of any job openings...

Yet another option would be contacting your local Perl Mongers club and trying to find any leads there.

I agree that we need something more than jobs.perl.org.

    Why? (he asks curiously)

I don't see the advantage of making employees find and post to two locations, and have job hunters have to look at two sites?

Because jobs.perl.org does not allow job hunters to post resumes.

Most employers/job hunters already look at several websites.

Surely that's an argument for adding that facility to jobs.perl.org rather than going elsewhere.

Ah. I see. I didn't understand that was what you were after. Sorry.

It is on the 'not so soonish' todo list. Might be worth volunteering to help implement if you think it worthwhile functionality.

That said when I've been on the employer side of the fence I've yet to meet anybody who actually uses these sort of service.

        Yup - and this sucks.

The more places people have to visit the more time and effort is wasted, and the more likely it is that people will miss a site. IMHO it would be a much better idea to encourage jobs.perl.org to become the place you go for Perl jobs.

I agree with the bit about the local Perl Mongers group - the London.PM mailling list is quite lively with jobs of one kind and another, mostly people passing on jobs at places they work or jobs they have been given the details of but don't want to or can't do. This has the advantage of being fairly localised too
