I suggest that you buy/borrow Learning Perl, but until then, try these out: Also, check out the Tutorials section (though it does sound like you did look in there) and Super Search for more info. ... Looking at a Super Search on "learn" and "perl" restricted to root nodes of Tutorials and Meditations, I'm becoming convinced that you should start there.

If you put a little effort into finding the right docs, you'll find that almost everything you want to know about programming is available, either here or elsewhere on the 'net, for free. And if you have some money to spend, you can get some more great docs. Put in a little time searching, and you'll love the results.
