I've noticed that the node reputation required to make it into Selected Best Nodes ("50 of the top 2000 nodes of all time!") is around 99 to 100 votes.

And yet, for the past five years, there have been no centurian nodes at all. None. For the past five years, therefore, many delightful nodes disappeared from view forever once they expired from Best Nodes.

That makes me feel sad. So I went through the meditations of the past five years and hand-picked some of the highest rated nodes from that period. Apologies if I missed some classics -- I cannot super-search by node rep, so may have overlooked some gems.

Please feel free to respond with classic nodes from the past five years that you feel are worthy of a wider audience.

This is delightful -- thanks. And I'm happy to see my 'cast iron' Meditation made it to your list. :)

I have been visiting Selected Best Nodes a fair bit recently (perhaps because my visits occur more often than new nodes are added), and I've been noticing that there are many from ten or more years ago -- many are still thought-provoking now.

I wonder if we could break up Selected Best Nodes into chunks, so that we'd also get to see great nodes from more recently. Perhaps make 3-5 chunks out of the database, and offer the best of that era?

Thanks PJ. We owe you so much. Groklaw -- RIP -- 2003 to 2013.

Centurian nodes? I've only been looking at PerlMonks for about a year, but I'm amazed when I see a node reach even halfway there.

At my Perl skill level I'm not going to be offering any amazing solutions to complex problems or prophetic words of wisdom in any node that is going to even get me close, but after reading some of the more "for entertainment purposes only" best nodes of yore I was inspired to make my attempt going that route.

I discovered that either: a) achieving such a lofty node reputation just isn't feasible anymore nowadays, or b) I'm not even as close to as funny and entertaining as I believe myself to be. Since my ego informs me that option b) is obviously utter poppycock, I resolved to accept option a) as an inconvenient reality.

I just figured both general use by your typical every-man and more importantly the number of power users keeps declining on PerlMonks as the community elders retire and the new generation of potential congregation members abandons the good book in favor of something more hip and evangelical. But what the hell do I know, I haven't been around long enough to give anything but at best a second hand account of "then vs. now" and I'm usually just shooting from the hip at possible explanations.
