Like I said, the wording may not be entirely clear; but the point is, was, and always has been, to post code in CUFP. If one's intent is to discourse at some length about how/why the code was written, or whatever, then that's Meditations. If the main point is to advertise one's product (and that does seem to have been the secondary point in this particular case), then maybe Perl News is the best place.

I reckon we are the only monastery ever to have a dungeon stuffed with 16,000 zombies.

    That may be your understanding, but it has always been acceptable practice to post a link to your perl code in CUFP -- the only requirement is that its "cool", it doesn't have to be actual code that fits into a node

    Its still just a cool story :) so it still fits the purpose of the section, even though now CUFP is also the snippets/craft section, so its three times as cool as before
